"Die Halligen"

Phenomena of a different everyday reality and their measurement

"Die Halligen"

The "Halligen" in the North Sea are small islands regularly flooded by tides, creating a dramatically unique landscape and way of life.

Students experienced this distinctive environment firsthand through an excursion, absorbing the atmosphere, speaking with locals, and sharing their observations with one another.

They were then challenged not only to immerse themselves in this different reality but to select a specific aspect and make it tangible for others.

This resulted primarily in technical and interactive installations that illuminated various elements of Halligen life: the necessity of rationing supplies, the expansive views across endless seascapes and flat terrain, and the rhythmic yet unpredictable movement of sea and sand.
